About Us
The Church at Clarendon was organized on May 10, 1909 as the Clarendon Baptist Church, but soon changed its name to First Baptist Church Clarendon. During the past 100 years the church has been at the center of ministry in Arlington. In 1969 the church’s Child Development Center (CDC) was founded and is now the largest pre-school in Arlington County. In that same year, the church held its first Spanish language Revival, beginning a long tradition of multicultural ministry that has resulted in the church sponsoring Hispanic, Vietnamese, Korean, and Ethiopian ministries. In 1979 the church opened one of the largest clothing ministries in Arlington County in response to the needs of new immigrants from Vietnam. The Clothing Center continues today to provide for a diverse population. Throughout its first century the church has been actively involved with the other churches and community organizations in Arlington County to provide for the spiritual and physical needs of the county’s residents and has given generously to many mission causes around the world.
As we begin our second hundred years of ministry in Arlington, we invite you to join us in what God is doing in this place as we build on the past faithfulness of the church. We don’t know what the future holds, but we know that the God who holds the future will continue to use this church for the glory of God as we strive together to serve Christ and continue to minister to the spiritual and physical needs of all of God’s children.
